Abstract

We investigated specific heat and magnetic susceptibility for the dilute systems R 1 - x Pr x Ru 2 Si 2 ( R = Th and Y; x = 0.05 and 0.1). The 4f electronic specific heat C 4 f / T shows a Schottky-peak anomaly at ∼ 10 K , and the 4f contribution to the magnetic susceptibility χ 4 f shows a saturation tendency below this temperature. These features are common to the R = Th and Y systems and scaled by the doped Pr concentration. The experimental results are fairly well described by the singlet–singlet crystalline-electric-field (CEF) level scheme. The Kondo screening seems not to occur in these dilute magnetic systems.
