Abstract

Carrier allocation-visible light communication (CA-VLC) has been spotlighted as a new means of building networks with location-based service that provides designated information to a given area without inter-cell interference. The authors propose and demonstrate digitalised single side-band (SSB) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal transmission with bit and power loading, which improve spectral efficiency to modulate multiple signals, in order to provide convergence services in the CA-VLC system. The transmission of SSB-OFDM is implemented by the Hilbert transform relation between real and imaginary parts of the OFDM signal. Sideband selectivity and its radio frequency (RF) carrier generation are easily achieved in digital signal processing along with SSB-OFDM generation that can dramatically increase the flexibility in a CA-VLC system.
