Abstract

Abstract. We propose a digital holographic imaging system that is capable of recording/measuring the amplitudeand phaseof an optical wavefront ina singleshot. Based on the principle of digitalholography (DH), the proposedsystemusesareferencebeamtointerferewiththelightfieldunderinvestigationanddigitallyrecords/measuresthein-phaseandquadratureinterferencepatterns.Single-shotin-phaseandquadratureinterferencepatternrecordingis made possible by incorporating the technologies widely used in coherent optical communication. Specifically, afree-space optical 90-deg hybrid is employed to measure the complex (real and imaginary) optical field. We haveconstructed a single-shotphase-shifting digital holographysystem and experimentallydemonstrated its operation. © 2014 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE) [DOI: 10.1117/1.OE.53.11.112316] Keywords: digital holography; phase-shift digital holography; three-dimensional imaging.Paper 140179SSP received Jan. 30, 2014; revised manuscript received May 22, 2014; accepted for publication Jun. 20, 2014; pub-lished online Jul. 17, 2014.
