Abstract

Brillouin optical time-domain analysis (BOTDA) based on optical chirp chain (OCC) has been proved that it is capable of fast and long range measurement. However, the performance of OCC-BOTDA is also limited by the issues of polarization fading and relative low signal-to-noise ratio due to transient stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) interaction. In this work, we propose a single shot OCC-BOTDA based on polarization diversity and image denoising. The polarization fading is suppressed by polarization diversity technique and the SNR is further enhanced by image denoising, thus the need of trace averaging is avoided. Single shot measurement of temperature over 10 km single mode fiber is achieved. The spatial resolution and temperature uncertainty are 6 m and 0.59 °C, respectively.
