Abstract

An attempt has been made to investigate the thermal decomposition of methane by treatment as a series of successive stages during which breaking down, eventually to separate elements, occurs. The overall kinetics of acetylene decomposition first receives attention and there follow sections dealing with ethylene, ethane and methane. A discussion of conditions for the formation of stable intermediate products of methane pyrolysis is included and it is stated that the kinetic equations obtained can be used for other products of thermal decomposition of methane.
