Abstract

Highly ordered quaternary semiconductor Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) nanoparticles (NPs) have been prepared via a simple conventional-hydrothermal approach, with a band gap of ~ 1.5eV and a high absorption coefficient greater than 104cm−1. In this paper, we report on the synthesis and characterization of CZTS NPs with controlled phase purity. The NPs were synthesized under various thiourea (Tu) concentrations, and a chelating reagent of diethylenetriamine (DETA) was also used. The synthesized kesterite NPs were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and UV–Vis spectroscopy. The effects of the thiourea concentration and the chelating coordination on the characteristics of the resulting CZTS nanoparticles 5–10nm are discussed.
