Abstract

Riboswitches are genetic regulatory elements located in the 5' untranslated region of bacterial messenger RNAs (mRNAs). Riboswitches contain two interconnected domains that function in concert to regulate gene expression levels in response to changing cellular conditions. Tandem riboswitches are particularly interesting because they can have more sophisticated mechanisms for gene regulation to respond to a broader range of conditions. However, many of the mechanisms they utilize for gene regulation remain unclear.
