Abstract

A dc-excited 3.39 μm He–Ne laser operated at relatively low pressure displays single-mode instabilities in the vicinity of the Lamb dip when the laser is operated approximately three times above the lasing threshold. Simple periodic behavior (high- Q pulsations), doubly periodic behavior (two pulsing frequencies), period doubling, and quasi-periodic behavior have all been observed within the region of the Lamb dip.
