Abstract

A double irradiation procedure produced a TSL peak at 190 K in quartz containing aluminum and lithium and a 202 K peak in quartz containing aluminum and sodium. The 190 K peak was later shown to be excitable by a single irradiation. The present work shows that the sodium related peak can also be excited by a single irradiation. Dependence of TSL intensity on irradiation temperature and duration is also similar to behavior in lithium quartz, supporting earlier identification of the sodium related center as [ SiO 4 Na ]°. Thermal activation energy for the release of sodium ions from [ AlO 4 Na ] + centers is found to be 0.31 eV.
