Abstract
We report a single-frequency linearly-polarized gain-switched distributed feedback (DFB) pulsed fiber laser. A 976 nm laser diode (LD) which can generate both pulsed and continuous wave (CW) laser is used as the pump source to initiate gain-switched progress. Pulsed fiber laser with single-frequency and linearly-polarization is obtained by applying pressure on a 50 mm long phase shifted fiber Bragg grating (PS-FBG). Through parameter optimization, the laser generates single-frequency linearly-polarized laser pulses with a center wavelength of 1030.78 nm, a narrowest linewidth of 36.1 MHz, a maximum peak power of 3.78 W, and a polarization extinction ratio of better than 19 dB. And the repetition rate of output pulses can be flexibly changed from 1 kHz to 400 kHz with a pulse width of 20–200 ns.
