Abstract

Single crystals of x-irradiated potassium hydrogen malonate were studied by electron spin resonance. The principal radical produced by the irradiation was (COOH) (·CH) (COOK). The main hyperfine doublet arose from the coupling to the α hydrogen, and satellite lines from four more distant extramolecular protons were identified. Previous theory on the positions and intensities of satellite lines was extended to include the present case. A model was prepared for the arrangement of the molecules in the unit cell.
