Abstract
Lipomas are benign subcutaneous tumors consisting of mature adipocytes. Most disease is sporadic, with individuals developing one or two tumors throughout a lifetime; however, familial syndromes exist, predisposing to multiple lipomatosis (Kanojia et al., 2019). To date, no targeted therapies exist for the treatment of lipomas, with the research of such fundamentally dependent on understanding the cellular and molecular phenomena underlying the pathogenesis of lipoma formation. Recently, several groups, including ours, used single-cell RNA sequencing to identify previously unreported adipocyte progenitors from complex adipose tissue (reviewed in Deutsch et al., [2020]).
