Abstract

The decorative ornament of the Creation page of the late‐thirteenth‐century Histoire universelle (London, British Library, ms add 15268) contains a pictorial motif that is derived from Islamic art. It shows Muslin musicians and a dancer entertaining a dignitary. The article examines possible reasons for the inclusion of an Islamic pictorial motif in a Crusader manuscript.
