Abstract

This article presents clergy members’ talk of “sin” as postmodern text. Definitions and negotiations of sin are examined from the perspectives of 72 people interviewed. Ideas of sin as textual symbol of identity and indicator of social address are proposed. The implications of the meanings attached to sin for postmodernism and the project of sociology are addressed.
