Abstract

In the present research novel graphite ductile irons were prepared by using an aluminum master alloy containing TiC-TiB2 nanoparticles. It was found that the as-cast graphite nodules could be refined by nanoparticles. The dissolution of graphite nodules and decomposition of pearlite could be retarded by nanoparticles during the normalizing process. Moreover, the addition of nanoparticles could enhance the impact toughness of graphite ductile irons by 50.4% before and 42.2% after the normalizing process with a slight increase in hardness.
