Abstract

The paper presents numerical and experimental investigations of a novel strongly nonlinear system designed for simultaneously vibration suppression and energy harvesting. Characteristic feature of a system is a magnetic levitation harvester which can recover energy from a pendulum tuned mass damper. A new model of coupling between mechanical and electrical subsystems is proposed. The obtained results indicate that a properly tuned pendulum absorber can significantly reduce vibrations and harvest energy at the same time. The best region for simultaneous vibration suppression and energy harvesting is situated in the beginning of resonance area. In this region, swinging of pendulum absorber significantly improves effect of energy recovery and reduces vibrations of a main system. However, the instability region caused by Neimark–Sacker bifurcation has been also detected.
