Abstract

The feasibility of a simple and robust sensor system for the simultaneous measurement of vibration and temperature has been shown. It is based on extrinsic coupling between a single-mode and two multi-mode optical fibers for the acceleration sensing, and of a fibre Bragg grating (FBG) embedded in the former fiber for the measurement of the temperature. The experimental results, and the use of simple differential techniques in the opto-electronic unit, confers to this sensor system good technical behavior and make it cost-effective.
