Abstract

On the basis of kinetic data optimal conditions for simultaneous hydrolytic purification of low-acid nickel sulphate solutions from divalent ions of iron, copper and zinc were established. The residual content of Fe, Cu and Zn in the purified solutions is about or less than 1 mgl −1. Only 9–11% of nickel co-precipitates with the admixtures. At a mole ratio Fe 2+:Cu 2+ of about 1 the oxidation of Fe 2+ proceeds totally without addition of an oxidizing agent. The precipitates were analyzed by X-ray micro-analysis, X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy. The data obtained along with the kinetic data concerning the precipitation of all elements made it possible to propose a mechanism of the process studied.
