Abstract

Trepan drilling with wire electrical discharge machine is performed to make macro size hole in tool steel. Electrical discharge drilling is thermal energy based non-traditional machining process. In this process metal removes from the work is due to melting phenomena. In present study L9 orthogonal array approach is used for the drilling experimentation. Pulse on time, pulse off time, wire feed and current are elected as machining parameters. After experimentation surface quality and material removal rate are considered as responses of drilled hole. Grey relational technique is used to determine the optimum level of machining parameters for drilled hole quality responses. Wire feed is found significant factor followed by pulse off time, pulse on time and current for the combined responses.
