Abstract

A novel scheme for simultaneous measurement of temperature and force based on a special-strain-function-chirped fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is presented. A specifically designed cylinder tapered cantilever beam (CTCB) can provide special strain distribution function to modulated the FBG's reflection spectrum. The feasibility of the special-strain-function-chirped FBG as sensor for simultaneous measurement of temperature and force was validated. Experimental results match the theoretical results well. The force sensitivities to the bandwidth and central wavelength of the FBG are 0.344 nm/N and 0.408 nm/N, respectively, and the temperature sensitivity is 0.078 nm/°C.
