Abstract

Abstract The distribution of surface tension on the front and rear sides of a camphor boat continuously moving on an aqueous-phase camphor solution was observed by the time-resolved quasi-elastic laser scattering method. The uniform motion of the boat was induced by a difference in the surface tension between the front and rear sides. A surface-tension gradient developed along the rear side, resulting in Marangoni convection that decelerated the boat.
