Abstract

Microstructures and mechanical properties of a microalloying Mg-2Zn-0.8Sr-0.2Ca alloy and a TiCp/Mg-2Zn-0.8Sr-0.2Ca nanocomposite were investigated in this study. The grain sizes of both the alloy and nanocomposite increased after homogenization treatment. The second phases of the as-cast nanocomposite were similar to the alloy, and MgZn2 phase was hardly detected after homogenization. The yield strength and ultimate tensile strength of the nanocomposite were increased by 76% and 14%, respectively, relative to unreinforced alloy. The homogenization treatment further increased the yield strength, ultimate tensile strength and elongation by 4%, 7% and 19.7%, respectively.
