Abstract

All-optical frequency upconversion utilizing a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is experimentally demonstrated. Eight optical radiofrequency (RF) signals having the RF frequency of 26.5 GHz are simultaneously generated by four-wave mixing in the SOA. Power penalties for simultaneous generation of eight optical RF signals are less than 1.1 dB. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
