Abstract

In addition to polyester fibres from polyethylene terephthalate a fibre type of improved dyability and pilling resistance is now produced from a copolymer synthesized from dimethyl terephthalate and Na-salt of dimethyl sulfoisophthalate [i]. The production of polyester fibre from terephthalic acid has increased in recent years so that it was deemed relevant to investigate the feasibility of modifying the fibre with Na-salt of sulfoisophthalic acid. Information on this problem is confined to the patent literature [2; 3].
