Abstract

ABSTRACTAn ozonation process was used for in situ removal of two species of green algae namely Oocystis sp. and Cosmarium sp. from a dam. According to the results, under the optimum conditions of the ozonation process 85.18% and 58% of Oocystis sp. and Cosmarium sp. were removed, respectively. Furthermore, the obtained results confirmed the main role of ozone molecules, and active hydroxyl radicals during the degradation mechanism. Also, chlorophyll-a concentration, SEM images, GC–MS technique proved the effectiveness of ozonation process for the complete and in situ removal of algal species.
