Abstract

Quenching of the fluorescence of two chiral fluorophores, 2,2′-dihydroxy-1,1′-binaphthalene and 2,2′-diamino-1,1′-binaphthalene, has been used successfully to determine the concentrations of each of the two enantiomers of the chiral quencher 1-phenylethylamine in a mixture of both enantiomers. From the concentrations of each enantiomer, the enantiomeric excess may be calculated. The method has been shown to be accurate with an LOD of 10% of one enantiomer in the presence of the other.
