Abstract

Reducing energy consumption of production systems without compromising productivity is a current and ongoing challenge. Technological approaches such as efficient drives have often been implemented already. Powering down inactive machine components during nonproductive periods promises further potential. To operate appropriate control strategies, information about the flow of production may be used. The application of such a flow-oriented approach in a case study, accompanied by a quantified analysis of the results, is presented in this paper.
