Abstract
Static frequency converter is widely used in startup of large-scale synchronous condensers. In high-speed stage, the inverter on the machine side adopts natural commutation, and the commutation leading angle β is usually set 60°. However, it restrains quick startup. In this paper, a control method of commutation leading angle β is proposed to reduce the startup time. For control of β, the arc extinguishing angle γ, the load angle δ , and the thyristor commutation overlap angle μ are calculated. According to the simulation result of startup in Matlab/Simulink, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified.
