Abstract

Packet switching is one of the tools for integration of variable bit-rate services, over broadband wide area networks. We had earlier proposed the design of such a broadband network, including the design of a high speed, high capacity packet switch, for efficient integration of voice and data services. In this paper, we present the results of simulation, conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed network for varying load conditions and traffic characteristics. The results establish the feasibility of employing the network as a backbone communication network for integrated services.
