Abstract

In order to reveal the influence of the viscosity of the transmission oil on the braking performance of the hydraulic retarder, the change law of the viscosity of the hydraulic retarder at different temperatures is analysed, and the influence of the viscosity of the working medium on its braking performance is analysed. The results show that: low-viscosity transmission oil can increase braking torque.

Highlights

  • With the development of economy, the application of heavy commercial vehicles is increasing, and higher requirements are put forward for the safety of commercial vehicles

  • Because the hydraulic retarder has the advantages of large braking torque, stable braking and low noise, it is widely used in commercial vehicles [1]

  • Domestic research on retarders mainly focuses on structural parameter optimization [2~5] and internal flow field characteristics [6], and there is less research on viscosity changes caused by changes in working medium temperature

Introduction

With the development of economy, the application of heavy commercial vehicles is increasing, and higher requirements are put forward for the safety of commercial vehicles. Because the hydraulic retarder has the advantages of large braking torque, stable braking and low noise, it is widely used in commercial vehicles [1]. Domestic research on retarders mainly focuses on structural parameter optimization [2~5] and internal flow field characteristics [6], and there is less research on viscosity changes caused by changes in working medium temperature. The hydraulic retarder is a device that converts mechanical energy into thermal energy. The effect of viscosity changes on braking performance cannot be ignored. CFD analysis method is used to study the relationship between viscosity and braking torque at 1200 rpm
