Abstract

Monte Carlo studies of the melting transition of Lennard-Jones particles in two dimensions are reported. Focus is placed on the orientational order parameter, and an estimate of the orientational melting temperature is made from the Binder ratio as well as finite size scaling of the critical exponent η6. We also discuss the role of critical slowing down and finite size effects in simulations of two dimensional melting.
