Abstract

Prediction of the microstructure modifications during manufacturing processes will allow to deduce the functionality of a manufactured workpiece. Likewise, for manufactured workpieces by thermal processes, the prediction of the microstructure modifications within the characteristic heat affected zone will allow detailed conclusions regarding their functionality. In course of this work, a previous developed model is improved with higher temperature gradients. Using the phase field method, the developed model is performed for a 42CrMo4 steel, and is applicable for simulations of microstructure evolution during processes with main thermal active principle e.g. laser machining or electrical discharge machining.
