Abstract

The protection of radio electronic equipment against ultrashort pulses (USPs) by means of modal filters (MFs) is considered. The structures of multiconductor microstrip MFs are analyzed. The time response simulation of 2-5 conductor MFs with length of 100 cm and 60 cm on excitation of USPs with duration of 1060 and 108 ps is performed. The separate effect of losses in conductors and dielectrics on the output signal is presented. The decrease of the output signal amplitude is shown in details. The effect of dispersion on signal waveform is illustrated. It was revealed that the effect of losses in conductors and dielectrics on individual modes can be mutually compensated to minimize output amplitude.
