Abstract

In this work, a simulation process, focused to study the performance of Li-ion batteries under variable driving conditions has been developed. The simulation has been tested for a battery of 100 kWh, 400 V and 250 Ah, in an electric vehicle operating in pure electric mode (EV). The results have been compared to the European standard NEDC and WLTP cycles, producing a range of 196 km for the NEDC cycle and 460 km for the WLTP, within accuracy of 98%, what proves the validity of the simulation. The method can, therefore, be applied to other type of electric vehicles like plug-in (PHEV) and hybrid (HEV) to determine their range of operation, or to driving conditions other than tested, in urban or suburban cycles like ECE- 15, EUDC, EUDCL, FTP-75, JC08 or HYZEM. The adaptive model developed in the simulation provides a useful tool to determine the real range in variable conditions.
