Abstract

We treat the kinetics of a rapid ${2A+B}_{2}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}2AB$ reaction mimicking CO or ${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$ oxidation on noble metals. For the infinite lattice, this reaction is known to be bistable. We show that the bistability disappears if reaction occurs on a small cluster containing only a few adsorption sites.
