Abstract
The integrative planning of new product development projects considering complex process, product and organisational interdependencies requires innovative methods and tools. The presented simulation model is based on the design structure matrix and allows the prediction of probability density functions for project duration and costs. It considers information dependencies between project activities, iteration probabilities and rework. Furthermore, changes in product design can be modelled and simulated based on interdependencies between product components, design parameters and development activities. This new approach makes use of domain mapping matrices. It provides an insight into how product variant creations and design parameter changes can be integrated in the process-oriented simulation of new product development projects.
