Abstract
In Part 1 of this paper ‡ , we described a general program, called CELIA, for simulating linear arrays of cells, each one changing under the same set of rules. In this Part, we discuss how the program can be applied to biological hypothesis testing, by discussing the problem of heterocyst formation in filamentous blue-green algae. We shall assume familiarity with the contents of Part 1.
