Abstract

The dendrite growth process of Zn–27%Al binary alloy was simulated with the phase field model coupling with the noise. The effects of noise intensity of solute field noise and phase field noise on the dendrite morphology were investigated. The results show that the noise can result in the formation of side branches, but cannot change the steady behavior of the dendrites tip. With the increase of solute field noise amplitude, the secondary dendrite arms are easy to coarsen and tertiary dendrite become stronger. It is the main reason for forming side branches. The phase field noise has a less contribution to the side branches.
