Abstract

A significant calculation amount is needed to analyze the force of microcapsules in the stirring process, which is caused by the small particle size and large elastic parameters, result in small time step of DEM. In this study, ground on the established relationship between the maximum contact force and Young’s modulus of particles, an accelerated discrete element method by reducing Young’s modulus of particles and increasing time step is proposed, in which the contact force between particles is corrected. The proposed method was validated in a mixing tank model with CFD–DEM simulation.
