Abstract

ABSTRACT A method for simulation of lightning transients in a class of multiconductor systems is presented in this paper, which is based on a circuit approach. In the method, capacitance and impedance matrices describing the multiconductor system are evaluated by an efficient procedure. An equivalent network formed by coupled n type circuits is defined for the multiconductor system and a lightning stroke to the system is simulated as a current source applied to a node of the network. The lightning transient responses of the network is obtained by means of Fourier transform technique. The frequency-dependent effect of the impedance parameters can be automatically taken into account. The computed results are compared with the measured ones and a good agreement is shown between them.
