Abstract

Due to the low insulation level of 10kV overhead distribution lines, ground wires were seldom used in the lightning protection design of distribution lines in China. In this paper, the influence of different types of towers, types of insulators, impulse grounding resistance of tower, and lightning position on the protective effect of overhead ground lines are analyzed by the numerical simulation of the 10kV distribution line. The results show that there are two important measures to improve the lightning withstand level of the distribution lines: improving the insulation level and reducing the impact grounding resistance of the line tower. The type of pole tower has a close relation to the lightning withstand level of the line, as well as the impact grounding resistance of the tower. Lightning location on the line has less effect on lightning withstand level.
