Abstract

Interstitial stereotactic brain tumor therapy is the subject of a cooperation project between the Institute for Nuclear Medicine at the German Cancer Research Center and the Department of Neurosurgery of the University Clinic of Heidelberg. The treatment of brain tumors by surgery or radiotherapy involves a high risk of damage to healthy tissue resulting in permanent impediments or personality changes. Interstitial radiotherapy, in combination with stereotactic operation methods and computer-aided treatment planning, achieves effective treatment of brain tumors while minimizing damage to the surrounding healthy tissue.
