Abstract

In this paper examples of 3D models with which the morphogenesis of a certain class of sponges and stony-corals can be simulated are presented. In these models the influence of the physical environment, consisting of the distribution of light intensities and nutrients in the environment, is included. The growth process of photosynthetic or filter-feeding marine organisms can be mimicked with these models. Possible applications are in bio-monitoring, where changes in the actual growth forms caused by changes in the physical environment, can be detected and interpreted using these simulation models.
