Abstract

ABSTRACT The fiber arrangement of a sliver has a significant impact on its quality, especially for the sliver evenness. In this work, an innovative computer simulation model based on fiber arrangement with fiber separation degree was rationally proposed in order to enhance simulation accuracy. The as-proposed model could be applied in simulating the arrangement of fiber assembles and separated fibers in the sliver, which is corresponded to the actual fiber arrangement. It can be drawn that some thin and thick segments were presented in the incompletely random simulated sliver considering fiber separation degree. The simulation results showed that three simulated cotton sliver irregularities of incompletely random model are much closer to the actual sliver irregularity. Therefore, it can be concluded that the application of fiber separation degree leads to a more accurate and reasonable simulation on the fiber arrangement in the sliver than the previous models. More importantly, the simulation of fiber separation process in the drafting procedure and the random combination between thick fragments and thin fragments during the drawing process are expected to be accomplished based on this model in the future.
