Abstract

There are a lot of different kinds of relay protection devices at the market. So, it is possible to implement different algorithms for protecting all types of grids, from small isolated grids to large regional power grids. The focus must be on early diagnosis of faults in power grids. Early diagnostic of single-phase ground faults allows improving values of SAIFI, SAIDI and CAIDI. The paper shows theoretical bases of a different kind of characteristics during the faults for early diagnostic. Voltage and current higher harmonics are used as the indicators of the faults in power grids. These indicators are universal for all types of grids, from a single line grid to a tree topology power grid.
