Abstract

RF guns with thermionic and photoelectric cathodes are widely applied as electron injectors for accelerators and FELs. This article presents a computer simulation results of an RF gun with thermionic cathode and grid. Such an RF gun will make it possible to receive electron bunches essentially shorter than the usual ones. The simulation shows the possibility to choose the length of gaps so that the second gap in the two-gaped RF gun suppresses the energy spread that appears in the first gap.
