Abstract

The simulation model of the photonic switch designed for optical packet switching networks is presented in this paper for the first time. At first the scheme and the algorithm of operating the photonic switch are considered. Then the simulation model implemented as the program written in Python is proposed. This program reproduces the process of functioning of the considered photonic switch. The expressions for finding the time of packet transmission are presented in the work. They are used in the program and influence on output data such as buffer size and time to wait for a packet in the queue. The dependences of the optical buffer size on the throughput of the communication channel and load are presented in numerical results section. The results of 16×16 photonic switch simulation are considered in this section as the example. For this switch average value of maximum buffer size in dependence on input load and two different throughputs of communication channels 1Tbps and 100Gbps has been calculated. The optical packet length has been 1500 bytes.
