Abstract

An S-band magnetically insulated line oscillator (MILO) tube working at 2.4 GHz is presented based on an existing L-band ladder cathode MILO tube (working at 1.2 GHz) where all dimensions are divided by a factor of 2. Higher-order-mode depressed MILO structure is introduced to depress generation of higher order modes in this tube. The dispersion curve is numerically calculated, and 3-D particle-in-cell simulations are carried out. Employing an electron beam of 830 kV, a transverse electromagnetic mode (TEM) high-power microwave with output power of 6.2 GW and a frequency of 2.48 GHz is obtained.
