Abstract

A low-order, non-linear mathematical model of a boiler drum with forced recirculation is derived and an approach used to transform the state variables to temperature and gas fraction is discussed. A simulation study is presented, the results of which are compared with plant measurements. It is shown that the simulated response of the drum level to changes in feedwater flow rate compare favourably with the measured data if an empirical term is included in the model.
