Abstract

This paper deals with design of Goubau PCB antenna as partial discharge (PD) detector. In the design, Goubau PCB antennas are simulated with a variety of shapes and sizes by using software for antenna design and simulation based on finite element method. The antennas are designed to achieve ultra wide band partial discharge frequency range. Goubau PCB antenna is designed with the type of substrate FR4_epoxy ranging from the size of the substrate with a length of 70 mm, width 40 mm, and thickness of 1.6 mm. We simulated three different shape and size antenna designs: trial 1, trial 2, and trial 3. The simulation results show that in the first design, the bandwidth antenna is 960 MHz and the minimum return loss −16.86 dB at the frequency 2.11 GHz with VSWR value is 1.4. In the second design, the simulation results show that the bandwidth is 388 MHz, the minimum return loss is −26.04 dB at a frequency 1.3 GHz with VSWR 1.1. In the last design, the bandwidth is 386 MHz, the return loss is −38.36 dB at a frequency 1.3 GHz with VSWR 1.02.
